As voters head to the polls this May, there will be no shortage of promises – but while politicians debate, one truth remains unchanged: Britain’s prosperity will always depend on the strength of British business.

That is why Back Business was created – to champion the firms, family businesses, manufacturers, farmers, innovators and high street names that keep our country moving.

We believe backing British business should be more than a campaign message. It should be a national habit and should shape how we shop, invest, train, build and grow.

Built around our 10 Positive Actions campaign, this is our practical manifesto for Britain: ten commitments to create a stronger, more resilient nation.

1. Put British Business First

We champion the principle that where possible, consumers and organisations should choose British goods and services. Every pound spent with a British business helps support jobs, wages and investment here at home.

2. Revive Our High Streets

We back policies and behaviours that strengthen town centres, protect local shops and encourage footfall. Our town centres and high streets are not relics of the past, they remain the commercial and social heart of communities across the country.

3. Stand Up for Small and Family Firms

We recognise small businesses as the backbone of the British economy. This means fairer conditions, prompt payment culture, reduced barriers to growth and stronger public support for entrepreneurs who employ locally.

4. Back British Farming and Food Security

We will support British farmers, growers and food producers who help feed our nation and sustain rural communities. Britain should value high standards, domestic production and the resilience that comes from our food security.

5. Rebuild Pride in British Manufacturing

We champion the businesses that build in Britain – from ceramics and carpentry to aerospace and engineering. A country that manufactures, is a country that creates wealth, exports skill and builds resilience.

6. Invest in Skills and Apprenticeships

We support apprenticeships, vocational training and technical education so Britain has the workforce it needs to compete on the global stage. Opportunity for young people and productivity for employers must go hand in hand.

7. Power the Next Generation of British Innovation

We celebrate Britain’s record of invention, and we support the next wave of success stories in science, technology, clean energy and industry. Innovation should be nurtured in Britain, commercialised in Britain and grown in Britain.

8. Build Stronger British Supply Chains

We encourage businesses and institutions to buy more from domestic suppliers where practical. Stronger UK supply chains create jobs, reduce dependency and make our economy more resilient in uncertain times.

9. Help Businesses Stay Secure and Competitive

We know that cyber crime is an increasing threat for British Business. Awareness of these threats and helping businesses protect themselves from malicious actors is a core part of our cause. Economic strength tomorrow depends on our technological capabilities and confidence today.

10. Restore Respect for Enterprise

We challenge the idea that business success is something to apologise for – British businesses create jobs, train workers, pay taxes and keep our communities thriving. Britain succeeds when enterprise is respected and encouraged.

Back Business was set up to shine a light on the brands that built our high streets, the producers who keep Britain supplied, and the innovators shaping our future.

We believe British enterprise should be recognised not as an afterthought, but as a national asset, because when British business succeeds, Britain succeeds.
