Back British Pubs - 5 Things You Can Do

SAVE OUR PUBS: 5 Things You Can Do:

1. Use your local!

The simplest and the most obvious way to support our pubs is visiting one. Making one or two visits to a local pub a week or choosing to go for a Sunday Roast rather than a midweek takeaway – these kinds of decisions are crucial to continuing our vibrant British pub culture.

2. Set up a fundraising page to support your local.

Setting up a fundraising page takes all of five minutes. Contacting your local newspaper and venues to share the link only takes a few minutes more.

3. Gather community support.

The obvious place to start is with other regulars. Hosting a weekly game of cards at the pub, or revamping Quiz Night – these are great ways to bring people back to the boozer. If you and your pub start a group night – it’s time to reach out to local newspapers or other organisations such as the Campaign for Real Ale, who are genuinely interested in promoting these kinds of community action and positive pub stories.

4. Stop the repurposing or demolition of a pub.

Residents can object to any planning applications submitted by developers that involves repurposing or demolishing a pub. You can check applications on your council’s website.

5. Write to your MP.

The more noise we make about this campaign, the better. And the people who can make a difference are in Westminster – setting the government’s agenda. Write to your MP to express the importance of your pub to its community, and the worth in taking measures to protect British pubs.
